A Little Something Every Day...

One of my New Year's goals is to write something every day. Who knows what I'll write about?

Lots and lots of rain causes FLOODING!

So far about 8 inches of rain today. I'm at the office now, but not sure when I'll get to go home. The northbound lanes of US 1 in Jensen Beach were barely passable when I left home (I travel southbound to get to work). The rain is starting to let up a bit so maybe in a few hours it will start to go down. Here in Palm City at the office things look ok. I'm sure if they hadn't redone our intersection a few summers ago it would be flooded out right now.

There was a tornado in Stuart on US 1 and Monroe Street. I have friends that live right by there, but it sounds like all the damage was to a Shell station on the corner so that is good.

The sky is starting to lighten up now. Hopefully it will stay that way awhile!

Good Morning Fay!

The bottom picture is the little retaining area in front of my building taken about 5:00 last night. Most of that water is from a storm Sunday. The top picture is the pond this morning. Quite a bit of rain overnight, but most of it is going to happen this AM.

I woke up to about 3 tornado warnings in the area, including pretty much right where I am. They said northwest Martin County, and you can't get much more northwest than I am! Its very dark and windy, but no tornadoes that I can see. Apparently, this side of the storm is the worst for producing tornadoes. So I'll be keeping an eye out. Everything comes in waves, and we're in a bit of a lull right now, but they're supposed to be coming through all day.

That's my update. I'll do another one later if something exciting happens.

Tropical Storm Fay

Well, I guess we're going to get some of Fay here even though it will make landfall as a hurricane somewhere between Ft. Myers and Tampa. She's pretty big area wise, so we'll get tropical storm force winds over here. It will probably start raining here shortly and won't quit until Wednesday morning. The big winds will probably come early tomorrow morning.

That's the update from here.

Miami Dolphins Training Camp

Yesterday I was doing my usual book hunting and decided that I needed to check out a place in Boca I hadn't been to in awhile. Since I was already down that far, I decided I would check out the Dolphins Training Camp since it wasn't that much further. The Dolphins train at Nova Southeastern University which is just west of the Ft. Lauderdale airport.

Just as I was almost there I got caught in one of our normal, Florida afternoon showers. It was brief and by the time I got to the practice field the sun was shining (and very hot and humid of course!) The bleachers got pretty crowded and everyone was quite anxious. Finally about half an hour after practice should have started, they cancelled the outdoor part because of "lighting in the area". Well, there were some storms in the area, but they were moving away from the field. It was the right thing to do because lighting can strike quite aways from the actual storm, but it was kind of disappointing. I was looking forward to seeing Ricky Williams again! Oh well. Maybe next year.

Lot's of movies to catch up on.

43. How to Deal (TV) 6/10. Pretty good story.

44. Harlan County USA (DVD) 8/10. Had to get this documentary after listening to "Coal" so much. Now I completely understand the song "Lawrence Jones!"

45. The Mighty (TV) 7.5/10. Had meant to rent this many, many times but just hadn't gotten around to it. Good story.

46. Definatley, Maybe (DVD) 7.5/10. Much better than expected. Cute story, good ending.

47. In Brugges (DVD) 6/10. Ok, some funny parts, but I expected more.

48. Bowfinger (TV) 7/10. Probably hadn't seen this since it first came out in the theater. Pretty good even now.

49. Mama Mia (Theater) 8.5/10. Loved it. It was just fun. And I had some pretty rowdy senior citizens sitting around me that were singing and dancing along. Pretty fun.

50. Backdraft (TV) 8/10. Always loved this movie. Hadn't seen it in a long time.

51. Coyote Ugly (TV) 5/10. Think I saw this a long time ago. It was so-so. Not horrible, not great.

52. Dogma (TV)7.5/10. Not my favorite Kevin Smith movie, but it's pretty good. Like the story.

53. Bonneville (DVD) 8/10. Had meant to see this in the theater (it only showed in the theater where there are high concentrations of senior citizens...my area exactly!) but didn't get to it. Much better than I had expected after reading reviews. Funny. Jessica Lange sounds very Minnesotan in this movie. Maybe I just notice it more now since I live in the south.

54. 27 Dresses (DVD) 8/10. I didn't expect to like it that much, but I did. Good story, slightly predictable, but still funny.

55. Charlie Bartlett (DVD) 7/10. Pretty good, but predictable.
